Mixture fraction imaging in turbulent non-premixed flames with two-photon LIF of krypton

چکیده
The use of a noble gas as an inert tracer for mixing studies in combustion systems is investigated. Simultaneous two-photon laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) of krypton and Rayleigh scattering are used for imaging measurements of mixture fraction and temperature in turbulent non-premixed jet flames. The turbulent flames investigated in this study include a piloted CH4/air flame (Sandia flame D) and a CH4/H2/N2 flame (DLR-B flame). These flames are well-documented in the literature and enable an evaluation of krypton as a tracer in different fuel mixtures with varying degrees of differential diffusion. Krypton is excited from the ground state to the 5p[3/2]2 state using 215 nm laser radiation, and the fluorescence decay to the metastable state, 5s[3/2]2, is detected at 760 nm. Single-shot krypton LIF and Rayleigh scattering images are analyzed in an iterative routine to determine mixture fraction and temperature. Measurements of the temperatureand species-dependent quenching rates for Kr-LIF are incorporated into this routine. The resulting average radial profiles of mixture fraction and temperature for both flames agree well with previously published measurements. The use of a noble gas as a chemically inert tracer has potential applications for mixing studies in a broad range of combustion environments. 2010 The Combustion Institute. Reaction-rate, Mixture-fraction, and Temperature Imaging in Turbulent Methane/air Jet Flames
Instantaneous two-dimensional measurements of reaction rate, mixture fraction, and temperature are demonstrated in turbulent partially premixed methane/air jet flames. The forward reaction rate of the reaction CO OH ⇒ CO2 H is measured by simultaneous OH laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and two-photon CO LIF. The product of the two LIF signals is shown to be proportional to the reaction rate. T...

Simultaneous imaging of depolarized and polarized Rayleigh scattering combined with OH-LIF and two-photon CO-LIF provides two-dimensional measurements of mixture fraction, temperature, scalar dissipation rate, and the forward reaction rate of the reaction CO+ OH = CO2 + H in turbulent partially premixed flames. Raman scattering from nitrogen in laminar (Re 4 1600) and turbulent (Re 4 15,000) non-premixed flames of diluted methane has been investigated as a means of complementing the two-scalar mixturefraction computation based on measurements of fuel mass fraction and temperature (nFT). Using a diluent consisting of argon and oxygen with an overall volumetric dilution ratio of 3/1 (diluent/fuel) allow...

متن کاملRadiation and Nitric Oxide Formation in Turbulent Non-premixed Jet Flames
Radiative heat transfer has a significant effect on nitric oxide (NO) formation in turbulent non-premixed flames. Consequently, predictive models of turbulent non-premixed flames must include an accurate radiation submodel. To investigate the importance of radiation submodels in modeling NO formation, multiscalar measurements of temperature and species were coupled with radiation measurements i...
